Materialise signs cooperation agreement for orthopaedic trauma products with Medartis

Thursday, January 19, 2012

Materialise and Medartis have entered into an agreement by which Medartis will make all APTUS trauma products available for pre-operative planning within Materialise's SurgiCase system.

With SurgiCase Orthopaedics, Materialise equips surgeons with the tools to try multiple approaches to complex reconstructive bone procedures before they set foot in the operating room.
The comprehensive service centers on the use of CT scanned images and consists of three components:

  • virtual surgery planning services
  • construction of cut and drill guides individualized to fit the patient
  • physical patient models

Medartis' goal is to sustainably improve early functional rehabilitation through its high-quality products and exclusively developed technologies. They are committed to providing orthopaedic and trauma surgeons and operating theatre personnel with innovative implants, instruments, and services that represent advances in osteosynthesis and thus patients' quality of life. In order to achieve this ambitious aim, Medartis relies heavily on close collaboration with surgeons, scientists, universities and hospitals. Medartis is also active in the field of cranio-maxillofacial, hand, and plastic surgery.

Jeroen Dille, Director of Orthopaedics at Materialise is thrilled with the agreement: "Now that Medartis' APTUS wrist plates will be uploaded to our plating library, it is possible for surgeons who are using this type of plate to be served much more quickly. The partnership with Medartis shows us that SurgiCase Orthopaedics is recognized as an important product in the orthopaedic market. We will continue to invest in improving our offering, which includes expanding our plating libraries."

Willi Miesch, CEO of Medartis AG, looks forward to this collaboration: "Due to the partnership with Materialise we can provide an additional service to our customers. Complex cases can be planned, in detail, in advance. We are convinced that the demand for this service will steadily grow."
